Reiki ("RAY-kee") is a Japanese word representing Universal Life Energy. Reiki is based on the belief that when spiritual energy is channeled through a Reiki practitioner, the patient's spirit is healed, which in turn heals the physical body. This is based in the belief that all matter is comprised of energy, including the human body. The practitioner places his/her hands on the patient, who lies on a table, wearing comfortable clothing. If the patient does not wish to be touched, the practitioner can hover their hands above the body.
